Invaluable guide for librarians/teachers/ parents

I have all three guides in the "Best Books" series. The ones for Grades 6-9, and Grades 9-12 were purchased because of my teaching background, but this particular guide was bought as a parent trying to put together an age appropriate reading list for my preschooler. As with the other guides in the series, this book is thematically arranged, i.e.

Biography [adventurers & explorers, artists, composers, entertainers, and writers, contemporary and historical Americans, scientists, inventors, and naturalists, sports figures, world figures]

History and Geography [in general, paleontology & dinosaurs, anthropology and prehistoric life, archaeology, world history, geographical regions]

Only useful for librarians

I purchased this when I just had a first child with a grand dream of providing all the wonderful books for him. It's very hard to judge a book based on the information given by this "Best Books" book, as it surveys hundreds of thousands of books with a sentence or two (uninteresting) descriptions of each. It's not for individuals, but more for institutional buyers.
