About the Author
Dr. J. J. Azar is a McMan Chair professor of Petroleum Engineering at the University of Tulsa. He served as Director of the University's Drilling Research Projects from 1974 to 1996, when he resigned to devote more of his time to teaching. Dr. Azar is a well-known lecturer in drilling engineering and the author and/or coauthor of four textbooks and over 60 refereed publications in technical journals. He is a registered professional practicing engineer and a member of SPE and API. He has served as a member and/or chairman on several SPE committees and as technical reviewer of several engineering journals. He received the 1997 SPE Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty and the 1998 SPE Drilling Engineering Award. 
Dr. G. Robello Samuel received an MS and PhD in Petroleum Engineering from the Tulsa University, an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Madurai University. Dr. Samuel has more than 17 years of experience in domestic and international oil/gas drilling and completion operations, management, and consulting. He is currently Senior Technical Advisor (Drilling & Completions) with Halliburton in its Digital and Consulting Solutions division.

I am lecturing a course in Transportation Economics in Istanbul University and this is the primary book that I follow. I highly recommend this book. The book is wonderfully proportioned and practically detailed in many aspects of project evaluation. It is a rate case of success in tackling an issue with such extent and depth.

Great Textbook

This textbook is for a very specialized subject, Aviation Maintenance Management. The author has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field and shares that throughout the book. The book is mainly geared toward civil aviation maintenance management and in particular the airlines. However, the information and explanations are detailed enough to cover the subject, yet easy to read. Tables and figures are placed appropriately in the text to reinforce learning. The book is organized logically and can be used by any professor to build a class curriculum around it. The appendixes add depth to material by discussing uncommon, but relevant subjects. Finally the author has well documented the text with references to the FAA Regulations, Advisory Circulars, and reports. In summary this is an excellent textbook for use in a classroom environment or as a stand alone book to further one's knowledge of Aviation Maintenance Management!!!!

Walter John de la Mare (1873-1956) was an English poet, short story writer and novelist, probably best remembered for his works for children, which include "The Three Mulla-Mulgars" (1910).

About the Author
Much honoured and decorated throughout his lifetime Walter de la Mare (1873-1956) was a prolific author of poetry, short stories and novels. In his lifetime he was popular for his children's stories but also highly respected by contemporary literary writers such as W H Auden, Graham Greene and Angela Carter. Today de la Mare is celebrated for his technical skill, unnerving ability to create atmosphere and the subtle ambiguities of his twisting narratives.

Magical, exotic, poetic fantasy

If you like the Hobbit, you'll love this "children's" novel about three royal monkeys (or mulla-mulgars) who journey across a strangely wintery fantasy Africa so that they can live with their "Uncle Assasimmon, Prince of the Valleys of Tishnar". On the way, they encounter flesh-eating "minimuls," "mountain mulgars" who do battle with eagles, the deadly beast Immanala, a beautiful water-midden who tricks one of the mulgars and takes his magic "wonderstone", a lost "Oomgar" from England, and many other adventures. The tone of the writing is wonderfully poetic and evocative, the verbal equivalent of Arthur Rackham's paintings. It's a crime this novel isn't better known.

The Monkeys' Quest

It was no less a literary light than Doris Lessing who brought this book to my attention. She gave it a warm review in "Time Bites," her collection of nonfiction pieces, so I sought it out for the Kindle and gave it a read. She was right. Its a fine tale of a quest that easily bears the comparison with Tolkien that it's often subjected to. In fact, it was written decades before Tolkien wrote his masterpieces, but I have no idea if De la Mare influenced the later writer.

Instead of Hobbits, the characters here are three monkey brothers trying to retrace their father's footsteps in search of their ancestral home. I should say three delightful monkeys, for each is a distinct individual. They journey through a magical landscape as vividly populated with talking animals as any Kipling jungle, and they meet challenges with a mixture of wisdom and foolishness that's all too familiar to us imperfect humans. On top of all the adventure, humor, and wonder lies ravishing language wielded by a poet who loved sounds and words for their own sake. This is one of those rare books that offers you more the more you bring to it. If you have any interest at all in fantasy literature, don't miss it.

LAWRENCE S. MEYERS, PhD, is Professor in the Depart-ment of Psychology at California State University, Sacramento. The author of numerous books, Dr. Meyers is a member of the Association for Psychological Science and the Society for Industrial and Organiza-tional Psychology.

GLENN C. GAMST, PhD, is Chair and Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of La Verne. His research interests include univariate and multivariate statistics as well as multicultural community mental health outcome research.

A. J. Guarino, PhD, is Professor of Biostatistics at Massachusetts General Hospital, Institute of Health Professions, where he serves as the methodologist for capstones and dissertations as well as teaching advanced Biostatistics courses. Dr. Guarino is also the statistician on numerous National Institutes of Health grants and coauthor of several statistical textbooks.

Easy to Understand

This book shows you how to perform various analyses in SPSS through screenshots and step-by-step instructions of what to click in SPSS. In addition, it discusses how to interpret the output of each analysis. This book is best used as a companion to a traditional statistics textbook because the background provided for each type of analysis is very brief.

This volume is part of the series ‘Pragmatics, Philosophy and Psychology’, edited for Springer by Alessandro Capone. It is intended for an audience of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postgraduate and advanced researchers. This volume focuses on societal pragmatics.

One of the main concerns of societal pragmatics is the world of language users. We are interested in the investigation of  linguistic practices in the context of societal practices (‘praxis’, to use a term used in the Wittgensteinian and other traditions).

It is clear that the world of users, including their practices, their culture, and their social aims has to be taken into account and seriously investigated when we deal with the pragmatics of language. It is not enough to discuss principles of language use solely in the guise of abstract theoretical tools. Consequently, the present volume focuses explicitly on the interplay of abstract, theoretical principles and the necessities imposed by societal contexts often requiring a more flexible use of such theoretical tools.

The volume includes articles on pragmemes, politeness and anti-politeness,  dialogue, joint utterances, discourse markers, pragmatics and the law, institutional discourse, critical discourse analysis, pragmatics and culture, cultural scripts, argumentation theory, connectives  and argumentation, language games and psychotherapy, slurs,  the analysis of funerary rites, as well as an authoritative chapter by Jacob L. Mey on societal pragmatics.

Another outstanding subject dictionary by Penguin

I have now have four of the Penguin Dictionaries (the other three being the ones for Literary Terms and Literary Theory, for Critical Theory, and for Psychoanalysis - and all are outstanding guides to the terminology in their fields). What I like to do is write the definitions of the terms with which I am unfamiliar on Mnemosyne Word Cards by Maruman. These cards are held together by a steel ring at one end of the cards. To be honest, I don't need the cards for Critical Theory or for Literary Terms and Literary Theory, but I am far less familiar with Psychoanalysis (not to be confused with the Penguin Dictionary of Psychology) and certain areas of Economics. I find this to be a great way to work my way into a subject. Most of my reading in Economics has been in political economy, or in such historical figures as Adam Smith and Karl Marx. But many of the terms of micro- and macroeconomics are unfamiliar to me and putting unfamiliar terms on the cards has been a tremendous learning device for me. I now have a pretty sizable number of cards, but as I rotate through each set I refamiliarize myself with the various terms and ideas, though I still can't find a coherent explanation of what Say's Law is.

I highly recommend this to anyone who is studying economics at any level. Indeed, I recommend all of the ones I've worked with so far. Kudos to Penguin for producing these superb reference volumes

super useful for preparing for exams and checking info on the go. I was able to take my essay writing to another level and I even used it to prepare for an exam that had a lot of definition-type questions. The definitions are universal in economics, so there's no difference from the book you're reading.
